Making Appointments
Tell the receptionist your reason for making an appointment so he or she can determine how much time the nurse or secretary sets aside in the doctor’s schedule for your visit. Be as open and honest as possible about your reason for the visit. For example, if you want to discuss changing your contraceptive method, let the nurse or receptionist know so they can allow enough time for your appointment.
You might feel embarrassed to tell the receptionist that you’re having a specific symptom such as vaginal itching, but the more they know about what you need, the better they will be able to help. If you think extra time might be needed for your appointment, let the receptionist know at the time you call to schedule it.
If you are concerned about having to wait on the day of your appointment, try to schedule your appointment for the first time slot of the day or right after lunch. These appointments are less likely to be running late. Also, on the day of your appointment, before leaving home, call the office to see if your doctor is on schedule.
