Tips for your visit
1. Before you make your appointment, think about what you want to accomplish at the visit. When you schedule your appointment, be sure to let the receptionist know your intentions/goals so they can allow an appropriate amount of time. This really can make a difference in getting enough time to meet your needs.
2. Be clear why you came in to see your provider. Before you get to the visit, make sure you’ve thought through what you hope to accomplish. Do you want to review what contraceptive options are appropriate for you? Do you want to change contraceptive methods to something that better fits your current circumstances? Do you want to discuss getting tested for sexually transmitted infections as you start a new relationship? Being clear and to the point will make it easier for you to get your needs met during your visit.
3. Write down your concerns prior to your visit and prioritize them. This will ensure you get to talk about the most important issues if you run out of time. Many times we save up our questions and then find that we have so much to talk about that we’re not sure we’ll get to it all. Making a list and prioritizing it will make ensure that you talk about the most important issues first.
