Preparing for Your Visit
It’s important that we get what we need from our health care provider. We all want our health care provider to give us their full attention and respond to our needs when it’s our turn in the examination room. But sometimes a doctor is swamped with patients and may need to be reminded to stop for a moment and give us their full attention. And, because appointments with doctors are usually limited to about 10 to 15 minutes, it’s important that we are prepared and organized to get the most out of a visit.
Here are a few helpful tips that can make your medical visit more productive:
- Think through and write down your symptoms and how they began.
- Write your questions down before your doctor’s visit.
- Repeat information back to your doctor to make sure you understand.
- Let your provider know if you have concerns about a treatment that has been recommended.
These tips can be applied to any health issue you might have—from reproductive health issues to other health-related issues such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
