Vasectomy for Men

What is a Vasectomy?

Vasectomy is an operation that makes men sterile by keeping sperm out of their semen.

How effective is a Vasectomy?

Vasectomy is very effective — 99.9%! However, because the sperm count does not immediately drop to zero, there is a period of time after the procedure when pregnancy can still occur. It takes several ejaculations for the sperm count to drop. Therefore, it is important to use a contraceptive method until a follow up test has confirmed the sperm count is zero.

What about Convenience?

This procedure is a simple one and is usually performed with local anesthesia. No organs or glands are removed or altered, and hormones and sperm continue to be produced.

Will a Vasectomy protect against STDs?

Vasectomy does not provide protection against STDs, so a barrier method such as a condom is recommended to prevent sexually transmitted infections.

Where can I get a Vasectomy?

Vasectomies are surgical procedures done in a doctor’s office or clinic.
