Two types of IUDs are available — a hormone-releasing device effective for up to five years and the Copper T device, which contains copper and can be worn for up to 12 years.
| 1. The IUD is inserted into a woman’s uterus by a woman’s health care provider during an office or clinic visit. 2. At the end of the IUD are two transparent strings that hang down into the vagina that a woman can feel for to check that her IUD is still in place. |
