Effectiveness
Female condoms are highly effective—comparable to the male condom. The female condom, when used correctly and consistently (every time you have sex), prevents pregnancy by providing a barrier between semen and the vagina. A drawback to using the female condom is that if it is not inserted correctly, chances of pregnancy greatly increase.
Cost
Female condoms cost a little more than male condoms, and like male condoms they cannot be reused. This can make this contraceptive method expensive for some couples.
Side Effects
Female condoms are safe to use and rarely have side effects.
How It Works
During sexual intercourse, the penis enters the female condom that is held inside the vagina by the inner ring. The female condom is sometimes a good alternative when the male partner does not want or like to wear a condom.
