Always wash your hands and examine the female condom to make sure there are no holes, cracks, or tears. To open the packet, locate the arrow at the tear notch on the upper right-hand corner and tear open.
1. The female condom contains a lubricant. Rub the sides of the condom together moving from the bottom to the top, making sure the lubrication is evenly spread inside the pouch. You can add more lubricant by giving one quick squeeze of the extra lubricant.

2. To insert the female condom, find a comfortable position — stand with one foot up on a chair, or sit with knees apart, or squat down. Be sure the inner ring is at the bottom, closed end of the pouch. Hold the outside of the pouch with the open end hanging down and squeeze the inner ring with your thumb and middle finger. Place your index finger between the thumb and middle finger and keep squeezing the inner ring.

3. With your other hand, spread the lips of your vagina and insert the squeezed female condom into your vagina. Take your time; start over if the female condom is too slippery to insert. 4. Push the inner ring and pouch the rest of the way up into the vagina with your index finger; check to be sure the inner ring is up just past the pubic bone. You will feel the pubic bone by curving your index finger when it is a couple of inches inside the vagina. Take your time and push the female condom up to where you can feel the bone.

5. Make sure the female condom is inserted straight (not twisted) into the vagina. It is important that the outside ring lies against the outer lips. About one inch of the open end will stay outside of your body. Once the penis enters, the vagina will expand and the slack will decrease. 6. The female condom can be inserted up to eight hours prior to sex but should be removed immediately after sex. Hold the condom securely at the open end so that nothing spills; remove the condom and throw it away in a garbage can. Do not flush it down the toilet.
