What is a Diaphragm?

The Diaphragm is a soft rubber dome with a firm rubber rim. Spermicide is placed in the Diaphragm and then it is inserted in the vagina and placed over the cervix to block sperm from reaching an egg.

How effective is the Diaphragm?

The Diaphragm is a very reliable contraceptive method, but like all birth control methods it is most effective when you use it correctly. If always used correctly, only 6 out of 100 women will become pregnant each year. Not only does it act as a shield to prevent sperm from entering the cervix, but also, there is spermicide to kill any sperm that happen get past the diaphragm barrier.

Will the Diaphragm protect against STDs?

No. To protect against STDs, you will need to use either a male and female condom along with the Diaphragm.

What about Convenience?

One of the advantages of the Diaphragm is that it can be inserted hours ahead of time, so there is no interruption to spoil the mood. For women who don’t have sex very often, using a Diaphragm only when needed can be a big plus.

Where can I get a Diaphragm?
